2nd Order - [Written / Action]

If there is anyone who knows what kind of plants do well here in spring, I'd welcome any recommendations.

- Lt. Bush

[Action]

[If one happened to notice, William Bush - a man who took such pride in his rank - wasn't wearing his uniform today. One could hardly expect him to wear the same thing every day when he had access to fresh water at the turn of a knob and more clothes than he could shake a stick at. To be perfectly frank, this was the wealthiest he'd ever found himself and he had absolutely no money to show for it.

Not that he was complaining about that. Restlessness, yes. There was only so much a man could occupy himself with before he went stir-crazy and started looking for plots of earth to make a garden in.

Yes. William Bush was going to plant a garden.

Which was why he was headed to the center of town at this very moment for seeds and implements with which to dig and such. If anyone remembered him from his earlier post then he'd be in some serious hot water.]

[Archie doesn't usually bother answering over the journals when the speaker is in the house. He goes and seeks Bush when he can.]

...Plants?

Sorry Lieutenant, but my thumbs are not green. I think Grune would be able to help you though.

[Melaka... has some vague recognition of him. After all, crew, heard two posts. Had Archie run on both. But then she stands out herself more than Bush does probably between the nose stud and the mukti-colored hair and stuff. But No, she sort of recognizes that guy with the shovels across the shop. Hmmmm]

I thought you were...well, city-born. [Not that he's ever asked... In fact, come to think of it, Bush has never once mentioned his origins to him. Oops.]

[Even if Selphie hadn't recommended her, this would be one hell of a ping for Grune.]

You can grow all kinds of flowers here! Do you have a favourite kind?

The library or the flower shop might be a good place to start, especially if you've had no prior experience.

No, it's a good idea. Nothing much else to do with the kailyaird. Right now it's just a lot of grass.

[As long as Bush is the one doing it. Archie has zero interest in gardening, and he already does the vast majority of the cooking. He's grateful Bush is really considering contributing, even if food is free. Archie doesn't have to cook, either.]

[Kennedy tsks.] A shame. They're very good, mashed in potatoes. You'd like the way we Scots eat.

You're welcome.

It'll be easier to ask for specific help once you've gotten yourself more of an idea of what there is to start with.

[Oh no you didn't.]

That's not true at all. Flowers make people smile and be happy. They're not useless.

"Quarters: Officers should live in a neat way. Their rooms should be attractive and not look like the cells in an insane asylum. By the purchase of a chair or two, a couple of pictures or prints, a rug and some pretty covering for their beds they can for a few dollars vastly improve the appearance of even the worst quarters. The assembly room in the quarters here should be fixed up far better than is at present the case; a slight subscript on the part of all would make this easy. Officers should no more come into such a room half clad and untidy than they should enter a civilian club in the same costume. Attention to the above details will add greatly to the comfort and self respect of all."

-The Obligation of Being an Officer, by Colonel George S. Patton, Jr. Tank Corps of the American Expeditionary Force, October 1, 1919.
